Mr. A. Ramanathan is a senior banking and financial services professional with over 34 years of experience in NABARD, culminating in the position of Chief General Manager, and more than 17 years of experience on the boards of NBFCs. His professional experience spans microfinance, financial inclusion, rural credit, secured lending, corporate governance, risk management, regulatory compliance and institutional development. He has served on the boards of more than 20 NBFCs and has extensive experience in providing strategic guidance and strengthening governance and board processes.

During his tenure with NABARD from 1979 to 2008, he held several senior positions, including Chief General Manager – Micro Credit Innovations Department and Chief General Manager – Punjab & Haryana Regional Office. He was closely involved in major initiatives relating to microfinance, financial inclusion, rural infrastructure financing and institutional development. He also led the Financial Inclusion Department and managed the Financial Inclusion Fund and Financial Inclusion Technology Fund, besides contributing to policy formulation and strategic planning in the rural finance sector.

He has subsequently developed substantial experience in the NBFC sector, having served on the boards of several prominent NBFCs and NBFC-MFIs. His board experience includes IIFL Samasta Finance Limited, and Five Star Business Finance Limited, besides approximately 20 smaller NBFC-MFI institutions. During these associations, he has contributed to governance, risk oversight, business planning, compliance and institutional strengthening. He has also been associated with organisations that witnessed significant growth in AUM, including IIFL Samasta Finance, where the AUM increased from approximately ₹50 crore to over ₹10,000 crore.

With his extensive experience across banking, NBFC operations, microfinance, secured lending, financial inclusion, risk management and corporate governance, he brings significant strategic and institutional expertise to the boards of financial services companies. His experience in mentoring senior management, strengthening governance frameworks, formulating policies and supporting organisational transformation positions him as a valuable contributor to the strategic and regulatory oversight of an NBFC.
